The Colourful Month of May 2018

The summer has begun and the sun shined brightly over the Bank Holiday Weekend bringing with it a sea of bloom and colour.  Here are some of the events our members attended during this colourful month of May…..

May 6th – In very warm conditions for the May Bank Holiday Weekend a small group of our athletes competed in the Drogheda 10K.  A massive well done to everyone and in particular to our young juveniles who competed in the Juvenile Races after the main event took off.

May 13th – In memory of his mother who came from Terenure in Dublin, Ronan O’Sullivan and his wife Bernie Balfe compete in the Terenure 5mile every year.  Ronan O’Sullivan – 34:10 / Bernie Balfe 35:54 (pb).

May 20th – Our international runner, Barry Reid competing in the Great Manchester Half Marathon finishing in a time of 1:39:39.  Well done Barry.

May 26th – MICHAEL LUNDON – HE DID IT AGAIN – BRONZE MASTERS’ O40 NATIONAL CHAMPION….. following on from his success coming 2nd on the 19th of May at the Leinster Combined Events Championships Michael headed to Morton Stadium in Dublin on the 26th to try his luck at the National Championships in the Masters Over 40s Pentathlon.  Amongst newcomers to this age group he battled hard competing in the Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, 1500m and 110m Hurdles. Most of the field were new to this group but Micheal’s patience, experience and determination earned him 3rd place on the podium and 2 new personal bests to be proud of; coming 2nd in the hurdles with a run time of 20:51 seconds and 1st in the 1500m with a spectacular finish in 5:00:49 minutes. On hand for the presentation was Louth’s own Georgina Drumm, President of Athletics Ireland.  Well done to Michael, he is an inspiration to our members both Senior and Juvenile alike.

May 27th  On a humid Sunday afternoon 3 busy bees headed to Clogherhead, not for a dip but to test their endurance at Clogherhead’s Seaside 10k.  Well done Domhnall Lennon 49:40, Peter Carolan 50:46 and our most enthusiastic newcomer, Michelle Lynch 52:16.

May 27 – Barry Reid was out again following his Half Marathon in Manchester competing in the Born2Run 10k in Malahide Castle, Dublin with a time of 43:33… there’s no stopping this man.

The month of May is a particularly busy month for our Juvenile Members:- May 4th – North Leinster Schools Track & Field Championships;  May 11th/12th/13th – Louth Juvenile Championships and May 24th – Ardee Area Community Games – see separate Articles on each event in News & Results.
