The National Championships were held in Tullamore over 3 days this year (July 8th, 22nd & 23rd) and five of our young athletes qualified from the Leinsters, a wonderful achievement in itself. Well done to Ruri Mothiram, Alex McFadden, Aoife Pentony, Charlie Sands and Kya Mothiram.
On July 8th Aoife threw well just missing out on a top 8 finish in the U15 Javelin final. Charlie ran well clearing the hurdles to finish 6th overall in the U17 100m Hurdles and Kya threw 33.96m to take home the gold in the U18 Discus.
On Day 2, July 22nd Ruri having reached the top 8 finished in 6th place over all in the U14 Discus final and Charlie also reaching the top 8 finished in 8th place in the U17 Long Jump final and 9th in the 400m just missing out on a place in the final. Alex too did well in the heats just missing out on a place in the U14 80m.
On the last day of these championships, July 23rd Alex ran a fantastic heat coming 3rd but just missed out on a place in the U14 200m final. Charlie had more success reaching the top 8 in the U17 Javelin final coming 7th overall. And our National Discus Champion Kya did it again taking Silver in the U18 Shot Put.
Well done to all these young athletes and Congratulations to our National Discus & Shot Put Champion Kya Mothiram.
