It was a fantastic evening at the Louth U20, Senior & Masters Championships in the Lourdes Stadium and a super well done to our members, Shirley McKenny, Emma Wiebenga, Teresa Luddon, Joan McQuillan, Ursula Mothiram, Tracey Gillespie, Marita Weldon, Charlie Sands, Laurence Farrell, Mark Durnin, Daragh Carolan, Vincent McQuillan, Ben Corcoran, David Tyhuis and Michael Pentony.
Fantastic running, jumping and throwing from our members with lots of PBs and medals too…
In the field, competing in the U20 category our youngest member Charlie, took home the gold in the Long Jump. He was soon followed by Michael who threw his way to take gold in both the Javelin and Shot Put in the M50 Masters category and Ursula competing at these championships for the first time took silver in the Javelin and bronze in the Shot Put W50 Masters category.
On the track, in the first race of the day Emma took gold in the Fit4Life Mile followed by Teresa, Joan and Shirlye coming 4th, 5th & 6th respectively. Emma also came 2nd in the 3000m W40 category with Joan and Teresa coming away with the gold in their respective categories W50 & W55. Also competing in the Men’s 3000m were Vincent, David, Ben and Mark. Both Vincent and David came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the M50 category and Ben and Mark also came 2nd and 3rd in the M45 category. Competing in the 1500m Vincent, Laurance and Daragh gave their all with Vincent taking gold in the M50 category and Laurance and Darragh coming 3rd and 4th respectively in the M45 category.
Sprinting for the club we had Tracey, Marita, Mark and Charlie. A super well done to Tracey who came away with a 3rd place medal in the 100m & 200m and a gold in the 400m W50 category and Marita who also took gold in the Senior Women’s 200m. More silvers for the club with Mark coming 2nd in the 200m M45 category and Charlie 2nd in a nail biting finish for the U20s 400m.
