LOUTH COMMUNITY GAMES 2018

The LOUTH COMMUNITY GAMES were held on June 10th at the Lourdes Stadium in Drogheda.  Some 30 kids represented the Ardee community and were one of seven areas competing on the day.  The proceedings began with the Community Games Pledge being read both in Irish and in English and Hallie Sands and Orlaith Carolan from Ardee had this honour.  Following the National Anthem the games commenced……

100m Hurdles – First up were the U10 100m Hurdles and success began quickly for the Ardee community with Caoimhe Carolan taking 1st place on the podium followed quickly by Arthur Sands also taking 1st place on the podium and Eoghan McEneaney just missing out coming 4th.  Their success was quickly followed by Hallie Sands also taking gold in the U14 100m Hurdles.

Sprints – As soon as the hurdles were cleared the sprints began with the U8 60m and U8 80m and representing the Ardee Community were Kathlyn Drumgoole, Lauren McCullagh, Hollie Murray and Mia McMahon for the girls and TomJoe McCormack, Daniel Cirde and Jack Duffy for the boys. All ran bravely in the heat with Hollie Murray taking 3rd and Jack Duffy taking 2nd in the U8 80m.  Our U10s, U12s and U14s took to the track next in the 100m sprints with some fantastic running from Ellen Bateson, Cian Lundon and Max O’Sullivan in the U10s and 1st place success for Jack Dowdall in the U12s and Orlaith Carolan in the U14s.

Distance – In the 200m sprints we had Jessica McCarron and Molly Keenan for the girls U10s and Oran Lynch for the boys. All ran their hearts out with Jessica taking home the silver and Emma Gillespie also taking home the silver in the U16s. Three brave competitors endured the heat and ran wonderfully in the U12 600m, Laoise Chanda, Dylan McCarron and Charlie Sands with Rebecca McCarron taking gold in the U16 1500m.

Field Events – Out in the field the Ardee community had more success in the Long Jump, Shot Put, Javelin and Ball Throw. Tom Maguire and Cormac Lundon threw well in the U12 Ball Throw just missing out on the medals. Kya Mothiram took 1st in the U14 Shot Put and Samantha McCarron took 2nd in the U14 Javelinn and in the U14 Long Jump it was medals all the way with James Maguire and Jack McCarron taking 1st and 2nd respectively for the boys and Ruth Gillespie taking 2nd for the girls.

Relays – The Relays were next and it was gold all the way for the U12 Boys (Jack Dowdall, Tom Maguire, Charlie Sands & Dylan McCarron), U14 Boys (Micheal Reid, James Maguire, Jack Dowdall & Jack McCarron) and U14 Girls ((Ruth Gillespie, Orlaith Carolan, Hallie Sands & Samantha McCarron).

Toddler Races – At the end of the day an U6/Toddler Race was held and representing our community on the podium was Rebecca Dowdall and Frank Sands both taking home silver.
