SUMMER FUN HAS BEGUN! (May 2026)

 

MAY 2026

Weekend 2/3 May – On Saturday many members enjoyed local parkruns and following day; Well done to all of our wonderful members who completed the Drogheda 10K on May 3rd, Paddy O’Mahony, Leo Farrell, Deirdre Breen, Helen Symmons and Sinead McArdle.  A special shout-out to Leo on an incredible achievement, 3rd place overall in the Over 60s category!  Also on this day, Massive congrats to Benny O’Kane and Conor Higgins who smashed the Belfast City Marathon, an incredible achievement, all that hard work paid off!  Brilliant running by everyone.

 

 

 

Bank Holiday Monday – May 4th – Our club was proud to support the FTD Brothers during their Louth Marathon.  It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout in Dundalk, with so many people and clubs coming out to support this incredibly important cause. The atmosphere was amazing and a true reflection of community spirit.  Well done to everyone involved.

Weekend 8/9/10 May – Well done to everyone who completed the Marist 5K on May 8th.  A great achievement by all involved and fantastic to see so many smiling faces crossing the finish line, Brian Duff, Shirley McKenny, Ursula Mothiram and Amanda McElroy.  Special shout-out to Shirley on a brilliant PB and to Brian on achieving his fastest 5K time of the year.  And Congratulations to Teresa Ludden, Joan McQuillan and Vincent McQuillan who took part in the Navan AC Simon Cumbers 6K.  Well done to everyone who took part in these races.  The following day while a couple of our members enjoyed Deerpark and Oldbridge parkruns, many enjoyed the beautiful scenery at the Cooley Coast Run.  Congratulations to all our members who took part and represented the club so well, Kate Moonan, Emma Wiebenga, Leo Farrell, Aidan Mooney, Danny Cirdei, Roy Crawley and Barry Rogers.  Special congratulations to Kate on finishing 3rd Woman Over 40s and to Roy on achieving a PB.  Great running, great atmosphere and stunning views along the coast.  Well done Everyone a fantastic weekend of competition.

Weekend 16/17 May – No competitive races this weekend but lots of fun running with our club enjoying Deerpark parkrun Carlonstown and Oldbridge parkrun and a fun 5k run organised by Roy finishing in the Valley Inn afterwards for a breakfast treat.

 

Weekend 23/24 May – The first glorious weekend of the summer began with a parkrun which saw Ronan O’Sullivan, Emma Wiebenga, Joan and Vincent McQuillan enjoying a lush green Oldbridge.  Lovely running folks.  And over the other side of the county Bernie Balfe and David Tyhuis completed the IMRA Cooley Half Marathon starting at the Lumpers and crossing the Cooley Mountains to Carlingford.  An incredible achievement taking on such a challenging trail course — brilliant running from both.  Also crossing the Cooley Mountains were Deirdre McEneaney, Shirley McKenny, and Amanda McElroy completing the Cross Cooley Challenge.  15.4k of beautiful scenery and wonderful company.  The following day, May 24th, Leo Farrell came 2nd in the Male Over 60s category at the first ever Ballygassan 5K.  This lovely 5K brought competitors through the village of Annagassan and along the coast road finishing up in the grounds of John Markey Park. A fantastic achievement, well done Leo.  Also on this day we had Roy Crawley, Emma Wiebenga, Joan McQuillan and Vincent McQuillan taking part in the Slane Castle 5K Trail Run/Walk.  Lovely running from these four and a special shout out to Vincent who won 1st place, a fantastic achievement.  And finishing the weekend, congratulations to Kate Moonan, Danny Cirdei, Barry Rogers and Andrew who ran the Newry Half Marathon in blistering heat, well done lads and Contratulations to all our members competing this weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

Weekend 30/31 May –  Another sunny weekend for our members.  Saturday morning began with the much loved Deerpark parkrun.  Lovely running folks and congratulations to all our athletes who ran the Dunleer AC 5K later that day and a special shout out to Dave and Benny on their PBs.  Well done Everyone.  The following day Michael Pentony ran the Cork City Marathon in a super time of 3:02:01, a new impressive PB, congratulations Michael and over in the Netherlands, Órlaith and Peter Carolan completed the Utrecht Half Marathon.  A wonderful achievement for Órlaith completing her first ever Half Marathon alongside her dad, Peter. A special day.  Well done to you both.
