Stealing away from the Fleadh Cheoil in Drogheda twelve athletes from Ardee & District A.C represented Louth at the Aldi National Community Games in the University of Limerick on the 18th & 19th of August, their first time hosting these games at this impressive venue. With the sun shining on day one our wee group got off to a flying start all qualifying through their heats to reach the semifinals. First up were our Boys U12 Relay Team of Charlie Sands, Michael Reid, Dylan McCarron & Jack Dowdall closely followed by our Girls U14 Relay Team of Samantha McCarron, Ruth Gillespie, Orlaith Carolan & Hallie Sands. Both teams ran some of their best times just missing out on places in the hotly contested finals. In our individual events we had two sprinters, Jack Dowdall in the U12 100m & Orlaith Carolan in the U14 100m. Our distance runner was Rebecca McCarron in the U16 1500m and our hurdlers were brother & sister, Arthur Sands in the U10 60m & Hallie Sands in the U14 80m and for our field events we had Kya Mothiram in the U14 Shot Put. Day two had a misty start but with temperatures rising in Limerick we saw some wonderful performances from all our semifinalists with Rebecca McCarron giving it all in her final followed by Hallie Sands coming 5th in a very tight fight for the 4th medal position and Kya Mothiram also coming 5th just missing out in the medals at these national games. Our athletes did themselves proud and a very big thank you to Aldi Community Games for a fantastic weekend, all our athletes truly enjoyed themselves and were wonderfully supported by their families and especially by Louth’s Community Games’ Managers, Deirdre McMahon & John Roche. Well done All.
