January 20th – Blackrock AC Cross Country
The sun was shining for our Juveniles at the first competition of the New Year. Well done to all those who braved the bitter cold but sunny winder’s morning at Blackrock AC’s Cross Country Meeting. We all enjoyed the friendly relaxed atmosphere at this well organised event. Up first for Ardee was Frank Sands sprinting home to take 2nd place in the Boys U7 100m. Next for the Club were TomJoe McCormack and Alfie O’Sullivan and running out of age were impressive in the U9 500m. Jessica McCarron, the sole runner for Ardee in the Girls U11 1,000m ran a wonderful race as did Alex Callan, Daniel Cirdei and Max O’Sullivan all running out of age in the Boys U11 1,000m. Another trio for the Club finishing well were Charlie Sands, Dylan McCarron and Arthur Sands in the U13 1,500m with Arthur, out of age finish impressively in the top ten. The last trio for the club on the day and running strongly were Orlaith McCarron, Hallie Sands and Ruth Gillespie in the U15 2,000m. Jack McCarron showed hard work pays off as he ran out of age to finish impressively in the top ten Boys U15 2,000m. Following Jack was the equally impressive Abbie Sheridan taking home the gold in the Girls U19 2,500m. Well done everyone and our thanks to Blackrock AC.
January 27th – Cushinstown AC’s Indoor Open Competion
Four of Ardee & District AC’s youngest members moved away from the muddy cross country fields to compete indoors. Oran Lynch, TomJoe McCormack, Sean McCormack and Rian Lynch travelled into Meath to compete in Cushinstown AC indoor Open Sports Competition. First up was a 30m sprint for the young people born in 2014 or after. Rian Lynch took to the track and was rewarded with a sweet treat for his efforts. In his first official competition Sean McCormack was next in the u8 60m sprint. Running a super heat,Sean progressed into the final. A very closely contested final saw Sean finish just shy of a podium place in 4th. TomJoe McCormack running superbly in his heat made his way into the final of the u9 60m sprint. Running a great final TomJoe stepped up on the podium to receive the silver medal for 2nd place. Next on the track was Oran Lynch in the u10 60m sprint. Winning his heat Oran was another to make the finals. Leaving nothing behind on the track Oran was justly rewarded with a silver medal as he took his place on the podium. With the sprints finished it was time for the field events. TomJoe McCormack competed in the u9 long jump. His first jump of 2.66m was enough to earn him the bronze medal and once again take position on the podium. Ardee & District AC thank all at Cushinstown AC for a well run and successful event. We also congratulate the boys on their success and wish them continued success in their athletics.
