Juveniles win the Pat Walker Memorial Shield…

On the 5th of August the sun shone on Ardee & District A.C today as a small group of our juvenile athletes ran, threw and jumped their way to taking home the ‘Pat Walker Memorial Shield/Visiting Club Award’ at Boyne AC’s Open Sports Day in the Lourdes Stadium in Drogheda.

It’s our second time winning this Shield and it was down to some wonderful performances from our juveniles, with Holly Murray taking home the first medal of the day in the U8 60m. Holly went on to take gold in the 200m and alongwith 3 other individuals took gold again in the U9 Mixed Relay. Also flying the flag for the U8s was Tom Joe McCormack who took silver in the 80m & 200m and moving up an age to join his club mates Jack Duffy, Alex Callan and Oran Lynch came 1st in the U9 Boys’ Relay. These three U9 boys also ran well qualifying in the 60m and just missing out on the medals in the 300m. Another U9, newcomer Molly Keenan preformed really well in her events and was outstanding alongside club mates Caoimhe Carolan, Jessica McCarron and Emily O’Reilly (St. Peter’s AC) in coming 2nd in the U11 Girls’ Relay. Our two U11 boys did well too, Dylan McCarron and Arthur Sands coming 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Turbo Javelin with Dylan taking home another medal alongside club mates Charlie Sands, Jack Dowdall and Jack McCarran coming 2nd in the U13 Boys’ Relay. Jack Dowdall himself was on fire today coming 1st in the U12 100m and Long Jump and 2nd in a very exciting 600m race. Amy Murray for the U12 girls came 3rd in the 100m and Jack McCarron had an impressive run coming 3rd in his U13 600m race. James Maguire too was on fire today taking gold in the U14 100m and Long Jump with Orlaith Carolan taking bronze in the Girls’ U14 100m. Orlaith was joined by club mates, Samantha Carolan, Ruth Gillespie and Isabelle Delaney who came 2nd in the U15 Girls’ Relay. Isabelle also took home another medal in the U15 Long Jump coming 3rd with club mates Eireann Hoey and Rebecca McCarron just missing out in the medals. Our U16s, Aoibheann Carolan and Emma Gillespie were in sprinting form today coming 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 100m and Aoibheann taking gold again in the U17 Girls Relay and for the Toddler Race we had 3 aspiring competitors, Sean McCormack, Frank Sands and Patrick Callan. Well done everyone, and congratulations on winning the Pat Walker Memorial Shield again this year.
