On Thursday evening with Mother nature sending perfect conditions the Louth Junior, senior and master track and field championships took place in the Lourdes stadium in Drogheda. Representing Ardee and district ac was Michael Lundon and Conor McMahon.
Michael Lundon who has came back to athletics having not competed in track and field since he was a juvenile. Michael decided to try athletics once more and entered as a master in the o40 category.
In the 200m Michael stormed around the bend to beat all others in a super time of 26.4secs to pick up the gold medal. A second gold came his way in the 800m when Michael tucked in behind the leaders until the home straight when he used his sprinting legs for 1st place in a time of 1.04.04.
12.6sec in the 100m earned Michael his 3rd medal from 3 events but he still wasn’t finished. Over at the long jump Michael’s best jump of 4.43m was good enough to secure him the silver medal for 2nd place. Michael now has times and distances to work on over the winter months training and will be more than willing to take on the sport of athletics over the coming years.
Also competing for Ardee and district was Conor McMahon, Conor stepped up an age to enter as a guest in the junior events.
Not having done much sprinting during the summer conor was keen to make use of the electronic timing to produce sprint times. Conor competed well in the 100m with a time of 12.01sec and in the 200m with a time of 24.6sec finishing 3rd overall.Conor also competed in the long jump and his best jump of 5.59m was enough to place him 2nd overall in the male event.
