Boy was it good to be back at competition. Thank you hosts, Saint Peters Athletic club and Athletics Louth for a super organised Championships thisyear held in the GAA Centre of Excellence in Darver on September 3rd.
Bringing a smile to all in Darver were the novel non-competitive U8 races sponsored by Saint Peter’s Athletic Club. Running for our Club was the gutsy Rian Lynch who picked them off at the end to earn his joint 3rd place position on the podium.
The clock stroke noon and a posse of nine U10 girls leapt into action running the 800m. They ran their hearts out. Competing today we had Evie Corcoran, Anna Maria Venckute, Grace Noon, Keira Flynn, Lexie McKenny, Evelyn Thornton, Ava Hickey, Sophia McKenny and Rhona Keenan with Evelyn, Ava, Sophia and Rhona finishing amongst the top winners to earn a 2nd place Team medal for the Girls.
Another posse of nine U10s took to the course. Competing in the Boys’ 800m we had Cian Fehily, Frank Sands, Alfie O’Sullivan, Liam Boyle, Sean McCormack, Sachin Chanda, Cillian Woods, Charlie Butler and Daniel Byrne. A lot of these boys ran impressively out of age and although they missed out on the medals they placed 4th overall as a Team.
The next race of the day for our Club was the Boys U12 2000m. They all pushed hard, TomJoe McCormack, Shane Noone, Daniel Cirdei, Oran Lynch, Kristupas Ruskys, Jokubas Ruskys and newcomer Oskaras Venckus sticking with it, encouraging each other with TomJoe, Shane, Daniel and Oran finishing amongst the top winners to earn a 3rd place Team medal for the Boys.
Finishing the day we had a few individuals and newcomers experiencing the Louth Championships for the first time. In the U14 3000m Molly Keenan surprised herself finishing in the top 10 and newcomer Charlotte O’Shea gave her all to finish closely behind. Another two newcomers were Sean Murphy and Luke Kenny who ran courageously in the Boys U14 3000m and they were soon followed by Gabrielle Ruskyte and Charlie Sands both running up and age and finishing comfortably in the U16 4000m.
Congratulations to all our Athletes who competed.
