SUMMER RUNNING 2018 – See what our wee band of Seniors got up to!

HOT HOT HOT is the only way to describe the months of June, July & August 2018 and not only was the weather hotter than normal but our Senior Members were on fire too; competing in a variety of races throughout these months – here is a summary of their achievements…..

June 9th – Congratulations to Leo Farrell on WINNING the Glenmore 10k Challenge in a time of 44.21 – Great Trophy.

June 9th – Well done to Domhnall Lennon who completed the 10 Mile Glenmore Challenge in a time of 1 hour and 32 minutes and boy was it a hot day.

June 9th – A big well done to Tracey McCarron who completed her 4th Ultra Marathon at the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge…. where does this mother of 5 get her energy!

June 10th – Well done to our senior members, Sarah Nic Lachainn, Derek Gillespie and Tracey Brennan Gillespie on completing the Slane Castle 5k Trail on a sunny Sunday morning in one of Ireland’s most beautiful settings and on our doorstep.

June 10th – 15 Marathons and counting.  Well done Barry Reid who completed his 15th marathon in the blistering sun in Wexford Town in a time of 3:50:41… This man sure loves to travel far and wide for a run.

June 16th – Congratulations to Tracey McCarron on completing her 8th Marathon in Avondale. Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow.

June 22nd – A bunch of our members were out for Drogheda & District AC’s Midsummer 5K Run.  Nathan Anderson 18:28 (4th O40’s), Leo Farrell 20:06 (2nd O50’s), Ronan O’Sullivan 20:08, Kevin Carroll 20:44, Paul Barnes 21:21, Domhnall Lennon 23:05, Peter Carolan 24:12, Joanne Dillon 30:10, Sarah Nic Lochlainn 30:59.  Well done Guys.

June 24th – Off the road and onto the track – Well done to Darren Weldon & Conor McMahon who represented Louth in the AAI League Round 1 in Mary Peters’ Track in Belfast.  Conor came away with 3 medals, 2nd High Jump (1.70m), 2nd Long Jump (5.92m) & 3rd 400m Hurdles.  Darren came away with 2 medals, 2nd Hammer pb(23.73) & 3rd Discus pb(25.75).  The Louth Team finished in 4th place after Round 1.

June 24th – Well done to husband & wife duo, Ronan O’Sullivan (34:15) and Bernie Balfe (36.40) who ran the Irish Runner 5mile on a lovely sunny morning.

July 1st – A big well done to Leo Farrell finished an impressive 7th place in 1:04:15 at Slieve Gullion Runner’s G8 8mile run in Slieve Gullion Park… where does this 50 something man get his energy.

July 6th – St. Kevin’s 5K Road Race, Philipstown, Co. Louth.  Well done to Paul Barns 20:18 and newcomer Joanne Dillon 30:34 on a race well run.

July 7th – Two buddies headed to Achill for the Achill Half Marathon – Newcomer, Kevin Carroll 1:56 & Domhnall Lennon 1:47.  Well done lads.

July 8th – Still in the West and Barry Reid is on fire after completing his 16th Marathon at the Wild Atlantic Way, Co. Sligo in an impressive 3:49:57 on a very hilly course.

July 9th – Back in Louth and onto the track where 4 of our Senior members outdid themselves coming away with an impressive 13 medals between them at the Louth Masters/Seniors Championships in the Lourdes Stadium in Drogheda.  Pauline Breslin (Masters) – 4 Gold: 100m, 200m, 400m & Long Jump  /  Michael Lundon (Masters) – 4  Gold: 100m, 200m, 400m & Long Jump  /  Peter Carolan (Masters) – 1 Gold: Long Jump & 2 Silver: 100m & 200m  /  Darren Weldon (Seniors) – 2 Gold: Shot Put & Javelin.

July 15th – The Dunleer 4 Miler – Seven of our seasoned runners headed up the road to Dunleer – Leo Farrell 26:51 (3rd in his category); Paul Barnes 27:18; Bernie Balfe 28:18; Peter Carolan 31:53; Michelle Lynch 34:38; Tracey McCarron 35:22 and Domhnall Lennon 35:29.  Great running guys.

July 17th – B-5 Bettystown 5 Mile and a big well done to Paul Barnes 33:36, Domhnall Lennon 41:16 and Sarah Nic Lochlainn 46:40.

July 22nd – Well done to Ronan O’Sullivan who completed the SSE Airtricity South Dublin 10k in 42:25.

July 26th – Well done to Paul Barnes, following an injury and back on his legs ran the Carton House 6k Trail Race in 25:32.

July 29th – Supporting a wonderful cause, Tracey McCarron completed the Alanna Russell Memorial 6k in Navan, Co. Meath.

July 29th – Four of our best completed the Dublin Fire Brigade 5k and check out these run times: Paul Barns 20:49 / Leo Farrell 20:59 / Liam Smith 22:58 / Peter Carolan 23:53… seems like the lads had their own race going on.

August 3rd– 5 of our Senior members head to the Carlingford 5k.  Well done guys, great running and a couple of personal bests… Paul Barnes 19:46 (pb), Kevin Carroll 20:26, AnneMarie Dillon 24:22, Michelle Lynch 24:38 and Joanne Dillon 29:46 (pb).

August 5th – Mullaghbawn 10k & 5k – A great result from these four men with Leo Farrell 43:10 finishing 8th overall and in the 5k Paul Barnes 22:34 coming 3rd in the Seniors, Brian Duff 37:37 and new member Ben Corcoran 26:08 competing for the first time for our club.  Well done lads, great running.

August 12th – Barry Reid and Ronan O’Sullivan headed to Dublin to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Series with Barry completing the 10k in a time of 43:15 coming 19 overall out of 1715 runners & 3rd in his age group and Ronan completing the Half Marathon in an impressive time of 1:41:18 coming 620 out of 5710 runners.  Also out running this day but much closer to home was Paul Barns who come 3rd in the John Mitchel’s GFC 6k in a time of 24:39.  Well done lads.

          

August 17th – Three of our seniors headed out the road to Rathkenny AC’s 5K with some impressive running, Paul Barns 20:27, AnneMarie Dillon 24:15 and Joanne Dillon 29:42.  Well done Guys.

August 18th – And Leo Farrell was flying the flag again for Ardee at the Dambusters’ Half Marathon in Silent Valley, Co. Down.  He came an impressive 35th overall in a time of 1:35:25.  Good man Leo.

Also on this day Michael Lundon flew the flag on the track for Ardee at the Irish Life Health Championships in Tullamore with some impressive results in the Masters’ o45 competition…  TWO Silvers, the 100m (pb 12:42) & the 200m, Bronze in the 110m hurdles and 7th in the 400m.  Fantastic results Michael.

August 19th – Ronan O’Sullivan (No. 256 below) completed St. Cocas AC’s ‘Kilcock 10 mile’ in 1:12:54.  Well done Ronan.

August 25th – Congratulations to Tracey McCarron on completing her 9th marathon this morning in Staplestown with EOI, despite almost having pulled out half way round due to hip & knee injury she dug deep & finished it.  Well Done Tracey.
